Improving Productivity Through Sustainability-Based Supply Management Packaging in Vitro Diagnostic Device Manufacturing

Abstract

PT X,Y,Z Biotechnology Indonesia is a medical device manufacturing company still in its pre-operational stage, facing challenges in building an operational system that supports sustainable business growth, particularly in managing packaging material a,b,c,ds. This condition is marked by high minimum order quantities (MOQ) set by several a,b,c,ds, significant lead time variation, and conventional a,b,c,d evaluation that has not yet incorporated sustainability (Environmental, Social, Governance/ESG) aspects. This study aims to develop a sustainability-based packaging a,b,c,d evaluation model to support productivity improvement and procurement efficiency. The study employs a mixed-methods approach on a case study of PT X,Y,Z Biotechnology Indonesia: the qualitative stage was conducted through interviews, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), 5 Why Analysis, and GAP Analysis, while the quantitative stage used historical purchasing transaction data applying the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) approach combined with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to measure and rank a,b,c,ds based on lead time, price, quality, and sustainability criteria. The results show that the average On-Time Delivery (OTD) of the four packaging a,b,c,ds evaluated reached 82.9%, with lead time as the highest-weighted criterion (0.473). The Sustainability-SCOR-AHP model identified PT D and PT C as the a,b,c,ds with the highest composite scores (4.12; preferred a,b,c,ds), while PT B obtained the lowest score (2.17) and is thus recommended to undergo a Corrective Action Plan. This study also formulates two strategies to address MOQ pressure, namely purchase consolidation across packaging variants and volume renegotiation with the top-ranked a,b,c,d. The findings support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8, SDG 9, and SDG 12.
